IT Asset Disposition (ITAD)

ITAD services for businesses

Complete IT asset lifecycle management

MGK Tech manages the disposition of corporate IT assets through a traceable process that includes asset collection, inventory, secure data erasure, technical assessment, value recovery and final destination management.

The service is designed for businesses that need to renew their IT hardware fleet, decommission devices from one or more locations, or manage IT equipment containing corporate data.

IT Asset Disposition

What is ITAD and when is it needed?

IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) is the process used by businesses to manage IT assets that are being removed from their technology environment, while maintaining control over the devices, the data stored on them and their final destination.

IT fleet renewal

Laptops, desktops, monitors and other corporate devices are replaced and need to be collected, inventoried and managed through a coordinated process.

Office closure or relocation

The project may involve batches of devices located across one or more business sites and require an organised asset collection process.

Servers and IT infrastructure

Servers, storage systems and networking equipment may also require inventory, data-bearing media management and a defined final destination.

Eligible IT assets

Which corporate IT assets can be collected?

Asset intake is defined according to the quantity and type of devices, the locations involved, the condition of the hardware and the activities required for the project.

  • Laptops
  • Desktops
  • Workstations
  • Monitors
  • Smartphones
  • Tablets
  • Servers
  • Storage systems
  • Switches and routers
  • HDDs and SSDs
Operational process

How an ITAD project works with MGK Tech

The workflow is adapted to the characteristics of the asset batch and the activities requested by the customer, while maintaining a clear and traceable process.

  1. Asset assessment

Quantity, asset types, locations, available configurations and required activities are reviewed.

  2. Collection

Organisation of asset intake and, where required, handling and transportation activities.

  3. Inventory

Assets are identified using available information such as manufacturer, model and serial number.

  4. Data erasure and testing

Data erasure, functional testing and technical classification of the devices are carried out.

  5. Value recovery

The destination of each asset is defined and final project documentation is prepared.

Data protection

Secure data erasure

Before hardware is reused or remarketed, data-bearing media can undergo secure data erasure procedures selected according to the technology and condition of the device. Activities can also be performed onsite at the customer’s premises.

Data wiping with BitRaser

Software-based data erasure for compatible and operational storage media.

Degaussing

Treatment of magnetic storage media when appropriate for the requirements of the project.

Physical destruction

For non-recoverable media or when software-based erasure is not considered the appropriate solution.

Final activity report

Data erasure activities can be documented through PDF reports containing available asset identifiers, serial numbers, the method applied and the outcome of the procedure.

Extending asset life

IT asset value recovery and final destination

An asset that has been retired from a company’s IT environment does not necessarily have no remaining value. Following technical assessment, MGK Tech evaluates configuration, functional condition, cosmetic condition and potential residual market value.

Assets suitable for reuse

Devices that still meet suitable technical and commercial requirements may be considered for:

reuse · refurbishment · remarketing · potential repurchase

Non-recoverable assets

Devices that do not meet the conditions required for recovery are excluded from the value recovery process.

Any management as electronic waste is defined separately according to the requirements applicable to the specific project.

Traceability

ITAD project documentation

Final documentation is prepared according to the activities actually performed and allows the customer to maintain a clear relationship between the assets collected and the operations carried out on them.

  • Asset serial numbers and identifiers
  • Condition of collected devices
  • Identification of processed storage media
  • Data erasure method used
  • Outcome of the procedures performed
  • Planned destination of the assets

ITAD services for system integrators and IT resellers

MGK Tech can manage a complete ITAD project or support individual stages on behalf of system integrators, IT resellers and organisations managing hardware infrastructure for third-party customers.

Activities may include asset intake, inventory, secure data erasure, testing, grading and economic valuation of the hardware.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about IT Asset Disposition

What is the difference between ITAD and simply disposing of IT hardware?

An ITAD project goes beyond physically removing devices from a business. It can include asset intake, inventory, data management, technical assessment, activity reporting and evaluation of reuse or value recovery opportunities.

Can data erasure be performed onsite?

Yes. MGK Tech can perform data erasure activities directly at the customer’s premises or on devices that have been collected and taken into custody, depending on project requirements.

Which methods are used for data erasure?

The method depends on the type and condition of the storage media. A project may include software-based erasure with BitRaser, degaussing or physical destruction.

Is documentation provided after the work is completed?

Data erasure activities can be documented through PDF reports containing available asset identifiers, serial numbers, the method applied and the outcome of the procedure.

How is the value of IT assets determined?

The assessment considers hardware configuration, functional condition, cosmetic condition, the quantity and composition of the batch and the potential for remarketing or reuse.

Does MGK Tech also manage servers and storage systems?

Yes. The service can include servers, storage systems and networking equipment. Where required, individual storage media installed in those systems can be identified and managed separately.

Do you need to decommission a corporate IT estate?

Send us the quantity and type of assets, the collection location and, if available, your current asset inventory. We will assess the collection requirements, the technical activities needed and any potential residual value that may be recovered from the hardware.
